COVID-19 update

Due to the suspension of all in-person teaching at the university we will deliver this course online.
The course will be held over three weeks starting the week of 19 May 2020. Course hours are 9:00 - 12:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Description

This course is aimed at project managers, researchers and graduate students in the biomedical sciences who wish to improve their skills on data management.

In addition to lectures, our workshop includes several hands-on practicals, all following one example research data management scenario.

Detailed Programme

(Week 1) Tuesday 19 May

9:00 - 9:30 Coffee with the ELIXIR LU RDM team.
9:30 - 10:00 Welcome and tour de table with participants.
10:00 - 11:15 Research data life cycle, DMP process and workshop example scenario.
11:15 - 12:30 Practical with the ELIXIR Data Stewardship Wizard.

(Week 1) Wednesday 20 May

9:00 - 9:30 Coffee with the ELIXIR LU RDM team.
9:30 - 11:00 Data protection, requirements for research. Practical with Data Information System - DAISY.
11:00 - 12:30 Practical aspects of data handling, checksums, encryption. Practicals with several command-line utilities.

(Week 2) Tuesday 26 May, Wednesday 27 May, Thursday 28 May

9:00 - 9:30 Coffee with the ELIXIR LU RDM team.
9:30 - 12:30 Practical with the Snakemake workflow system.

(Week 3) Tuesday 2 June

9:00 - 9:30 Coffee with the ELIXIR LU RDM team.
09:30 - 12:00 Exploratory data analysis and reproducible manuscripts

(Week 3) Wednesday 3 June

9:00 - 9:30 Coffee with the ELIXIR LU RDM team.
9:30 - 11:00 FAIR Principles for research data management with classroom discussions.
11:15 - 12:30 Data publishing and archival.
