In February, Regina Becker, in charge of strategy development at ELIXIR Luxembourg, gave an introduction into the upcoming General Data Protection Legislation (GDPR) that will come into force on 25 May 2018.
The webinar addressed relevant parts of the legislation for research and data sharing, practical consequences for research institutions and in particular ELIXIR Nodes, and measures that should be implemented for compliance. In addition, the talk mentioned the challenges ahead and suggestions on how to jointly tackle these challenges in ELIXIR. If you missed the webinar, have a look at the video and download the slides.
The new regulation has considerable consequences for managing and storing personal data, imposing more responsibility on the data controllers and data processors, so the webinar was particularly relevant for the ELIXIR community. This was reflected by the number of registrations: more than 120 participants joined the webinar.
As the interest for the topic is high and there is a need for information, ELIXIR-LU will organise a workshop on the GDPR in Brussels on April 16. To know more about the programme and to register, check out the event page.Go back to the news
